Joubert rises to the challenge of eco-certification

Schéma Joubert Environnement

Respect for the forest is written into the founding values of the Joubert group, and has always been an absolute priority. We have always ensured that our supplies do not have any repercussions on the environment, but today we go one step further to offer the highest guarantees of quality.

Certification PEFC

The guarantee of woods originating from sustainable and well managed forests

From France

In France, the Joubert group developed a close partnership with the local foresters many years ago for the poplar species, over a 100 km radius around its production sites.

A precise schedule of conditions defines the rules for supplying with two different criteria – the quality of the wood and environmental guarantees. The Joubert group’s partners follow the criteria set by the PEFC certification scheme which they have or are in the process of obtaining.

A manager has been appointed on each of the Joubert Group’s production sites to ensure the chain of custody for the origin, the quality and the tracking of the wood.

From other countries

For supplies from other countries, the Joubert Group asks for the same requirements.

Indeed, Okoume supplies for the Group originate from well managed forests in Gabon where the partnership with foresters such as Precious Woods Ltd, in the process of obtaining the FSC certification, and CBG (OLB approved - Origine et Légalité des Bois) has now been in place for a number of years and has enabled the Joubert Group to develop a real strategy of traceability of its wood purchases. This guarantee of wood which has been durably managed by the most committed local foresters is a vital step to eco-certification.

The veneers also originate from companies such as Precious Woods Ltd or CPBG, companies that are going through the process of eco-certification and who ensure controlled and verified sourcing.

Other species like Sapelli come from the Central African Republic, a country where forest development is the most advanced. Once again supplies are ensured in these countries with partners who have environmental certificates.

Security and quality at the heart of the process

Since 1989, the Joubert Group has committed itself to meet the different recognized standards, with some of the most demanding requirements. The Group’s procedures aim to improve the performance of the company but also the satisfaction of its clients, and this at each possible stage.

Everyone at Joubert, from purchasing to quality control management is committed through the continued training to ensure a rigourously checked quality.

By regularly investing in the modernisation of its production means, the Joubert Group also has excellent technological standards which enable it to ensure the development of new products.

Environmental requirements at the heart of our industrial process

Besides wanting to reduce pollution at every stage of the manufacturing process, the Joubert Group has put in place an active policy for waste management. Optimal wood output and getting the most out of the wood help to alleviate the impact on the environment.

Managing one’s waste is good, saving on raw materials is even better.…The monthly indicator of wood output on the 3 production sites of the Joubert Group in France and in Gabon reflects the work carried out all throughout the process, with the quality of the logs, the stocking conditions and the manufacturing process, in order to limit the loss of raw materials.

The wood output is thus optimized for the manufacturing of Joubert plywood, and is at the forefront in comparison with the average wood output of the different plywood manufacturers in Europe.

As far as the wood waste is concerned, two thirds of it is recycled internally for thermic energy feeding the boiler and one third is recycled externally as raw material, for example chip board or for paper pulp.

All the other waste is sorted in its entirety and collected by treatment companies in the La Rochelle region.

Certification
Beyond the certification, a real mobilisation,
making us actors of durable development

Ecocertification: the materialization of a lifelong commitment

Long before the concept of durable development appeared, the Joubert Group always had a voluntarist environmental policy for preservation of the natural resources, a guarantee of transparency and reliability of its supplies and exemplary model management of its manufacturing.

A moral code to which the Joubert Group has never waived from.
Rising to the challenge of eco-certification lies within the tradition of its founding commitments.

All of our partners are equally committed to this same logic and are therefore also being assessed. This goes to prove that the Joubert Group and its partners are completely dedicated to this cause.

The CE marking: attestation of conformity to the required norms

The CE marking according to the Construction Products Directive certifies that the products meet the 6 mandatory requirements:

  • Mechanical resistance and stability
  • Security in case of fire
  • Hygiene, health and environment
  • Security of use
  • Protection against noise
  • Economy in terms of energy and thermic insulation

The CE Structure marking (also called CE 2+) shows that an independent notified body checks the internal control measures taken by the manufacturer for and also whether they comply with the harmonised norm EN 13986 "Wooden panels designed for construction – Characteristics, conformity and marking evaluation".

Panels with the CE S/2+ marking:
